Introduction to Hatha Yoga

Date/Time: Saturday, October 25 at 11:00AM - 3:00PM
Location: Boston Yoga Union - 364 Boylston St, Boston, MA

Hatha Yoga is a traditional approach with references that date back to the Upanișads. In Hatha Yoga you use various techniques, like asana, to organize and regulate the body. By doing so your nervous system becomes toned, your breath becomes calm and your mind becomes steady. Now more than ever we live in a constant state of information overload and consumption! How often do you pick up and start scrolling on your phone without realizing it, or start your day with a doom scroll even though you just meant to check the weather? The senses are constantly drawn and quite frequently absolutely jarred by the influx of stimulation that we are surrounded with. In this workshop we will explore how you can harness your mind and your energy via your body so that you can create a stronger sense of steadiness within yourself, despite what the world throws at you.

Over the course of a few hours we will explore some of the underpinning philosophy of Hatha Yoga, Move through a led version of the asana & Pranayama  from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and wrap up with some time for questions/observations and discussions.

You can expect:

  • Philosophy Lecture/Discussion - bring a notebook if you'd like

  • Extended Practice (a few years of experience is requested)

  • Introductory Traditional Pranayama

  • Follow Up Discussion Time
